On 11 September 2024, the construction site for the investment “Design and construction of the S19 expressway on the section Deniski – Haćki” was officially handed over. The event was attended by representatives of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways Branch in Białystok (GDDKiA), which is the project investor, as well as representatives of the general contractor, Unibep Infrastructure Branch. The Contract Director for Unibep is Tomasz Gibulski, who will supervise the performance of work on the section measuring 6.503 kilometres.
The S19 investment is a key component of the Polish expressway network, which will provide an important connection between the border with Belarus and the southern border with Slovakia. Section B, which will stretch across the municipality of Bielsk Podlaski and will be constructed by the consortium of Unibep SA and Value Engineering sp. z o.o., aims to significantly improve traffic capacity and safety, as well as contribute to the economic development of the region.
“On 11 September, the construction site was handed over to us, allowing us to begin preparatory work. We plan to start the main works next Monday. Due to the upcoming autumn-winter period, the priority will be to carry out soil stripping and to separate the embankment layer from the native soil, which will allow construction to continue under more challenging weather conditions. We also want to prepare access roads for the bridge teams to facilitate the construction of engineering structures along the S19 route,” said Tomasz Gibulski.
The S19 road in this section runs entirely through unbuilt areas, which minimises the impact of construction on the residents of nearby towns. The investment includes not only the construction of the S19 road itself but also the reconstruction of local roads and the creation of accompanying infrastructure along with service areas. A key aspect is also the use of innovative technologies, including displacement columns and prefabricated piles, which will ensure proper soil reinforcement.
“From the point of view of the local community and drivers, our investment will bring significant benefits. The new expressway will significantly shorten the travel time to Lublin while also increasing the traffic safety. As a result, the residents will gain better access to larger cities, and the entire infrastructure will enhance the quality of life and travel in the region. We are making every effort to minimise the inconveniences related to the works by continuously collaborating with local authorities and the community. The first changes to traffic organisation, which we will communicate in advance to ensure smoothness and safety for all road users, are anticipated for the first quarter of 2025,” said Tomasz Gibulski.
The investment, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, is part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). Its implementation aims not only to improve the national transport system but also to enhance international road connections, which will ultimately contribute to the competitiveness of the Polish economy.
