The new heating plant in Orzysz is 70% complete

Unibep is constructing a renewable energy (biomass-based) heating plant in Orzysz. The level of progress of the investment reached 70% at the end of November 2023. The Ordering Party is Przedsiębiorstwo Usług Komunalnych Sp. z o.o. in Orzysz. This is the fourth contract for a biomass-based investment to be implemented by the General Contractor in the northeastern Poland.
The task involves the design and turnkey implementation of a forest biomass fired heating plant for the city of Orzysz. Unibep will construct a heat plant building with external installations, a biomass warehouse, and a near-boiler biomass storage area with a moving floor. Additionally, Unibep will deliver and install two 5.0 MW biomass-fired water boilers, along with a biomass transport system, heat collection and exhaust gas discharge system, including ash removal installations and the necessary accompanying infrastructure. The supplier of the technology for the investment is a renowned Polish manufacturer of heating equipment, Intermet from Elbląg.
“We started the work on the construction site in May 2023. As part of the construction of the boiler room building, we completed the foundation work, reinforced concrete pillars, and the steel framework for the roof. The chimney, which is 25 metres high and 80 centimetres wide, is ready, delivered to the construction site and installed with two cranes. In the boiler room, we have completed the underfloor installation and the foundations for the technology, and we have installed the main equipment. The area for the final floor has also been prepared,” said Katarzyna Trojanowska, Construction Manager at Unibep.

In the coming weeks, the roof, side walls made of sandwich panels, and floor will be completed in the boiler room. The construction team is planning to complete the assembly of components for the main technology and start the implementation of the hydraulic system, i.e., pomp, pipelines and insulation. The next step is the electrical work and the installation of control and measurement automation. The final stage of the assembly works is the installation of the entire building control system.
After completing the mechanical work, Unibep will proceed to the so-called cold commissioning, which involves checking the signals and the correctness of electrical equipment connections. Next, there will be hot commissioning, which is firing the boilers, transferring heat to the heating network and commissioning the exhaust gas cleaning system.
“Very important will the optimisation of the boiler room with the already existing heating system, as both facilities must work together. If the optimisation and commissioning yield positive results, then we can officially put the facility into operation,” said Katarzyna Trojanowska.
Unibep is the comprehensive contractor for the energy sector
As a company operating in the energy market since December 2021, Unibep has quickly gained solid experience in implementing turnkey investment projects. The company successfully competes in tenders aiming at the modernisation and transformation of the energy sector in Poland. Unibep is currently implementing such projects across almost the entire Poland, in Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Łódzkie, Dolnośląskie, Śląskie, and Opolskie voivodeships.
“In Orzysz, Ełk, and Hajnówka, we are working on several biomass investments. We are modernising and constructing heat plants that will be equipped with modern biomass-powered boilers. In Warsaw, Unibep is implementing an investment involving the commissioning of an exhaust gas condensation system for the K1 biomass-fired boiler in Siekierki Heat Plant. The ordering party is PGNiG Termika. In turn, in Włocławek, on the request of Anwil from the Orlen SA Capital Group, Unibep is responsible for the construction and commissioning of a medium-pressure steam boiler plant,” explained Adrian Warzecha, Contract Manager at Unibep.

Unibep is equally strongly interested in renewable energy projects. Currently, Unibep is working on two projects at different stages of completion. Parallel to the project in Szymany (two solar farms with a capacity of 1 MWp each), it is building a solar farm in Łódzkie voivodeship with a capacity of 1 MWp. Both investments are expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
The range of services offered by Unibep to power and industry sector includes the supply and assembly of technologies and supporting installations, as well as service works, such as installation start-up, maintenance (cleaning systems), inspections, renovations, and post-failure repairs.
“Contracts serving the energy transition are particularly important for us in various aspects. First of all, the technology and the scope of works allow our team to develop new competences. Secondly, the social aspect is very important here. Thanks to these projects, we can contribute to improving the quality of life and health of people,” said Adrian Warzecha.
