Construction of Provincial Road No. 689 – A New Communication Perspective for Bielsk Podlaski and Hajnówka

Let us check the progress of the construction of provincial road No. 689, connecting Bielsk Podlaski with Hajnówka. It is a project that has been of great interest to the residents of Podlasie region for a long time. This investment is of crucial importance for the development of the Bielsk Podlaski and Hajnówka region. The value of the agreement is PLN 89,994,660.32 net, which corresponds to PLN 110,693,432.19 gross. The Investor is Podlaskie voivodeship, represented by the Podlaskie Voivodeship Road Authority in Białystok (PZDW) in Białystok. The construction agreement was signed on 5 October 2020. The length of the route is 24.48 km, and it is classified as a G-class road.

Construction progress and ongoing works

Currently, construction works on provincial road No. 689 are being carried out in parts, using alternating traffic and traffic lights. An exception is the bypass of the Hołody town, which is being constructed on a new route approximately 2.7 km long. Currently, construction works are underway at 11 alternating traffic lights sections out of the planned 39 for the entire investment, with 8 of them already completed. The current stage of work primarily focuses on earthworks and construction works carried out at the remaining alternating traffic lights sections. What is more, a bridge over the Orlanka River at kilometre 8+775 is being constructed, with the structure currently at the stage of foundation works.

At this stage of the project, there are 14 members of the management team and 18 members of the labour force, including operators, involved in contract execution. Additionally, 30 individuals are working as subcontractors, including site managers and physical workers.

The biggest difficulties are behind us

Some challenges emerged during the project implementation. The design stage was significantly prolonged, which was a condition for obtaining the ZRID decision. Finally, the ZRID decision was obtained on 31 May 2023, and the work began on 7 June 2023. Since then, work has been progressing according to schedule, and the project's implementation is currently at around 35%.
