The Infrastructure Branch of Unibep SA, has been chosen as the contractor for the construction of the Giżycko bypass along the National Road No. 59. The agreement signed earlier today (16 November 2023), amounts to nearly PLN 110 million. The work is scheduled to be completed within 36 months (excluding the winter break during construction).
The official signing of the agreement was attended by Wojciech Iwaszkiewicz, Mayor of the city of Giżycko, Mirosław Nicewicz, Director of the Olsztyn Branch of GDDKiA, Adam Poliński, Director of Infrastructure Branch, Jarosław Bera, Warmińsko-Mazurskie Market Director, and Adam Sołowiej, Contract Director.
“We are incredibly happy to be able to accomplish such a major investment in Giżycko, one of daily importance for the citizens and for tourists, who visit the beautiful city of Giżycko and the region in great numbers during the tourist season. Unibep, as the Mayor of Giżycko mentioned, is a company from Bielsk Podlaski, Podlaskie Voivodeship and it operates in a variety of market segments in Poland and abroad. However, the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship is an extremely important market for the Infrastructure Branch of Unibep. We are striving to increasingly highlight our presence in this region,” said Adam Poliński.
The project completion deadline envisages the completion of the design and construction works, along with obtaining the occupancy permit, within 36 months from the date of signing the agreement. The planned expansion of the bypass will cover 1.5 km of the national road No. 59, towards Wilkasy, creating a modern road for the accelerated traffic (so-called GP road) with a 2x2 cross-section (dual carriageway) and load capacity of 11.5 tons per axle.
“This is the most crucial section to eliminate or significantly reduce the issues during the opening of the swing bridge,” said Wojciech Iwaszkiewicz, the mayor of Giżycko.
The aim of the investment is to improve road traffic safety, as well as safety for pedestrians and cyclists. By adjusting the road parameters to meet the currently required BRD standards, the expansion of the bypass will contribute to reducing the number of road accidents, shortening travel time, and lowering the levels of noise and air pollution.
The Infrastructure Branch of Unibep SA is honoured to have the opportunity to participate in this strategic project, supporting the development of road infrastructure in Warmia and Mazury.
