Olefin 3 Complex

The extension of PKN ORLEN Olefin production complex in Płock has been the largest petrochemical investment in Europe over the last 20 years. The Olefin Complex area will amount to almost 100 ha. Unibep SA was responsible for building the complete supporting infrastructure for this investment.

“Our task within the framework of construction of Olefin 3 Complex consisted in construction of complete supporting infrastructure for this investment. We prepared the connections for the offices of the General Contractor and subcontractors: power supply, water, and sewage systems, as well as IT and CCTV installations. We also prepared the external lighting in the backup area.

We have completed works related to the construction of the power supply infrastructure in the supporting area. Currently, we are working on the construction site power supply infrastructure, a total of 12 medium voltage to low voltage substations, including one with a 1 600 kVA transformer.

Moreover, our tasks consisted in construction of facilities, i.e. an insulated steel hall and a non-insulated steel hall, a shed, and office facilities for the General Contractor of the investment.

Several locations required the assembly of nearly 5 hundred containers (for office purposes) equipped with a complete power infrastructure and all installations making possible the work of team of designers and supervision of Huyndai Engineering & Technical Reunidas Consortium during construction works.

We also made drainage of the area, parking lot, and communication routes.

“This has been a very demanding project due to the non-standard quality requirements and unusual design assumptions applied therein. An additional problem was the need to raise the area and repair the foundation conditions for the hall. It is also worth mentioning that coordinating the design works for the temporary needs included ongoing consideration for the needs of future infrastructure,” said Mariusz Hołubiec, Contract Manager at Unibep SA. “The international environment with its cultural differences between the Employer and the General Contractor, to be more precise, also posed a bit of a challenge,” he added.

The construction of the Olefin 3 Complex is to be completed in 2024, and production is scheduled to start in 2025.
