Rising walls of the new campus of the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz

„Rosną” mury nowego kampusu Akademii Muzycznej w Bydgoszczy

Unibep is the general contractor of the largest investment currently being implemented in Bydgoszcz. The new campus of Feliks Nowowiejski Music Academy is being built on an area of over 3 hectares. The heart of the facility will be four concert halls. “The main task is to meet high acoustic and aesthetic standards,” said Paweł Prażmowski, Contract Director at Unibep.

“Currently, we are conducting the reinforced concrete works on the first and second floors and finishing masonry works on the second basement level. These are the key stages for the progress of the construction, the foundation for further works,” said Paweł Prażmowski, Contract Director at Unibep. “We are planning to prepare mock-ups of the aluminium facade and brick elevation In the coming weeks,” he added. The next step will be to start sanitary and electrical works. This stage requires precision and accuracy to ensure proper working of the facility.

Determining the parameters and methods of constructing aluminium facades is one of the key challenges faced by the construction team.

“The main task is to meet high acoustic and aesthetic standards. This has been an ongoing process for the last fifteen months, and it has required our involvement as the General Contractor, as well as the involvement of the Client’s employees and designers working in collaboration with accredited foreign laboratories,” explained the Contract Director, Paweł Prażmowski.

Additionally, the construction team has been already working for some time on the production of white concrete architectural elements. They will be implemented according the highest standard, BA3.

“They are employed in the most representative areas of the academy. These are extremely challenging elements to produce under variable weather conditions prevailing at the construction site. The labour intensity required for their construction is four times higher than that of traditional concrete walls.

Due to the scale and complexity of the investment, the construction team of Unibep will have to carry out specialised work requiring additional documentation preparation, multiple approvals, and material testing.

“I would like to highlight that we are aware of these challenges, and we strive to minimise any delays and maintain the high standard of quality of the investment acting on a current basis,” said Paweł Prażmowski, Contract Director at Unibep.

We make visible progress week by week

“The construction of the campus of Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, as I have often stressed, is a complex and highly engaging project. Visiting the construction site regularly, one will notice the results of our team’s daily efforts. I would like to stress that I am satisfied with the results achieved so far by our Construction Team and the dedication they have put into this ambitious project,” said Krzysztof Mikołajczyk, Vice President of the Management Board and Construction Director at Unibep. “I would also like to express my gratitude for the professionalism and commitment of the Construction team,” he added. Teamwork, effective communication, knowledge sharing, continuous process improvement, and swift decision-making enable all of us to overcome challenges effectively. Thanks to that, we work according to the plan.

Unibep has experience in constructing cultural facilities. The company delivered Świętokrzyska philharmonic hall in Kielce in 2011, and two years later, completed the construction of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, the European Art Centre in Białystok.

“Considering our previous experience in implementing such investments and the recommendations of our clients, I am confident that we will successfully complete this project as well.” What is more, we have a tight-knit team of specialists, not only in the field of building construction but also in acoustics, stage technology, lighting, and stage mechanics. Its members possess excellent knowledge in their realms of expertise and collaborate seamlessly. All this to ensure that the concert halls provide the highest-level performance and provide the audience with unforgettable experiences and emotions,” added Krzysztof Mikołajczyk.

The new campus of the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz

Once completed, the new headquarters of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music will become the main building of Bydgoszcz Academy of Music, housing all facilities related to academic activities, including concert halls, auxiliary and teaching rooms, a restaurant, and a student residence hall. The envisaged university park will become a place of recreation with the water reservoir it surrounds reflecting the southern glass facades of the building

The building was designed in a passive standard with a strong emphasis on use of renewable energy sources and maximum energy efficiency. In this respect, it will certainly be the most modern facility of this type in Poland.
