On 30 September, took place the official topping out of the Copernican Revolution Lab.
This means that construction work has been completed and the buildings have reached their target height. A unique facility is being built right next to the Copernicus Science Centre.
“It will be a large research and development laboratory. It will be an interdisciplinary laboratory where we will combine social sciences, sociology, education, learning, and psychology with engineering sciences and modern technologies,” said director of Copernicus Science Centre, Robert Firmhofer.
“It is not enough just to encourage the most talented scientists to conduct research. We must also ensure that the research brings about some positive results not only for the world of science, but also in terms of practical application. We keep in mind that creating the Copernican Revolution Lab. First of all, so that scientists from very different fields, on the edge of which the innovations often arise, can meet here. Secondly, so that everything that is invented here has a chance to be used in reality – in business or for the development of the city. I am glad that the building that is being built here will serve Warsaw,” said the president of the capital, Rafał Trzaskowski, during the ceremony.
"The building has been completely created in BIM technology. – At the beginning, we made a special BIM model. All installations are also three-dimensional. After completion of the investment, the investor may check on a computer, e.g., a chosen facade to see who made it or what is the warranty period,” said president Leszek Gołąbiecki.
The Copernican Revolution Lab will become yet another structure complex of buildings creating the Copernicus Science Centre. Currently it comprises the main building of the Copernicus Science Centre, Planetarium, and Pavilion 512. The whole complex is located in the immediate vicinity of the Vistula river, riverside boulevards, and the entrance to the Świętokrzyski Bridge.
There building will host laboratories with equipment for conducting biological, chemical, physical, and mechatronic workshops as well as a professional recording studio. There will also be a construction workshop with tools for designing and implementing engineering solutions. The space will be adapted to run typical class lessons as well as activities similar to those in which scientists work. Venetian mirrors, behavioural analysis equipment and recording devices are supposed to allow for advanced research. The new building will also include office space and showroom in which the research results will be presented.
