The logistics centre in Łapy got started

Construction of the only logistics centre in Podlasie along with a container terminal in the city of Łapy has been completed after over a year. The investment has been implemented by Unibep SA.

The investment has been completed by the Kontrast company from the city of Białystok. The company has been operating for almost 30 years, and the value of the investment is impressive. It is approximately 30 million zloty. Nearly half of the funds came from a project implemented under the Regional Operational Programme of the Podlaskie Voivodeship.

Where did the idea for such a business come from? - We distribute products in the interior design category. We do it on a really large scale. We import a lot of goods from Asia. They reach us just through the ports in Tricity. At some point, we began to worry about the lack of professional infrastructure in our region. So far, the containers have been delivered in a traditional way on TIR trailers. The establishment of the terminal means a significant reduction in delivery time and, most importantly, significant savings for us and many other companies - says Krzysztof Koc, the head of Kontrast company.

Many entities not only from north-eastern Poland but also from other parts of the country will benefit from the development of the Container Terminal in Łapy. There is no doubt that the investment will have a positive impact on the Podlasie economy and will give green light to the development of the small city of Łapy. What is important, the investment will also become a logistics base tailored for the enterprises operating in the Special Economic Zone in Łapy. Initially, there will two or three railway carriages ran weekly.

The container terminal was built on the premises of the Rolling Stock Repair Services in Łapy, which has been out of operation for years. The investor proudly informed media about the terminal on 4 October 2019. It covers an area of over 2 ha. There will be space for over 1000 containers on its premises. As part of the investment, there was created a platform equipped with specialized unloading and handling equipment managed by modern IT systems.

A modern class A warehouse with an area of 10,000 sq. m will also be put into operation. The facility will be equipped with high-storage racks. It will be operated by specialized forklifts and managed by a modern IT system.

- We are glad that we were able to build the Logistics Centre in Łapy - said Dariusz Turowski, the director of industrial construction at Unibep S.A., the general contractor of the investment. - I want to underline how good the cooperation between the investor and the contractor was. We believe that this investment will meet all customer expectations. It will be an important place for reloading shipments in Podlasie. What is important is that the implementation of this construction allowed us to gain experience with implementation of a railway siding. I would also like to stress the fact that the facility in Łapy is yet another successful implementation of Unibep S.A. in the industrial construction segment. I would like you to remember that considering the region of Podlasie only, we have built the Milk Powders Plant for Mlekovita and the production plant for Rosti company.
