Unibep SA withdraws from the agreement
On 23 March 2018, the contractors withdrew from the construction agreement of the Sokółka - Dąbrowa Białostocka road.
On 17 February 2017, a consortium of UNIBEP S.A. (consortium leader) and Most Sp. z o.o. with its registered office in Sopot (member of the consortium) signed an agreement for the execution of the investment named "Construction and extension of the provincial road No. 673 along with road engineering facilities and the necessary technical infrastructure on the section Dąbrowa Białostocka - Sokółka along with bypasses of the town". The ordering party was the Province Roads Authority of Podlaskie Voivodeship in Białystok. The investment cost was estimated at approx. PLN 67.4 million net. On Friday, March 23, 2018, the contractors withdrew from the agreement.
- We have received a project that had a lot of technical and engineering defects. We cannot let the company invest according to such documentation. We examined the land, we had analysed different variants of the project implementation, we had spent a lot of time to make it real... All for nothing. We informed the investor that the submitted project does not meet the conditions of good road construction. Not only that, to our knowledge the road designed that way could be dangerous for users in the future - adds Leszek Gołąbiecki, the President of the Board of Unibep SA. - As there were no solutions to solve the problems on the part of the investor, we cannot proceed otherwise than to withdraw from the agreement for the construction of the Dąbrowa Białostocka-Sokółka road. It was a very difficult decision for us. We made it after consultations and analyses with engineering and legal experts.
The President of Unibep SA emphasizes that his company cannot sign a project which does not meet the criteria of a well-prepared investment. - For us, it is important that the road infrastructure built by the Unibep SA Road Department is of a good standard, so that it would serve the residents of and not only of the Podlaskie voivodeship for years - adds Leszek Gołąbiecki. - However, we do not close the door on cooperation with the investor, this also applies to the construction of the Dąbrowa Białostocka-Sokółka road. It is important, however, that the construction project corresponds to reality and is feasible.
